New Editing Hardware Creates A STORM

It certainly was a busy IBC for Grass Valley's Desktop and Enterprise Solutions division, with not just the EDIUS 6 and ADVC G-Series announcements, but also the introduction of two new editing platforms: STORM 3G and STORM 3G Elite (pictured right).

Storm EliteSTORM 3G supersedes the HDTHUNDER, adding 3G capability to this popular editing hardware. It ships with EDIUS 6, and any HDTHUNDER users out there should note that their hardware can be 'uprated' to a STORM 3G simply by purchasing the EDIUS 6 upgrade and installing it.

STORM 3G Elite, however, is a completely new piece of hardware that replaces EDIUS HD. It comprises a stylish breakout box with PCI-Express 4x interface for  your desktop PC (supporting up to 1080p50/60) as well as an ExpressCard/34 interface (supporting up to 1080i) for your laptop. STORM 3G Elite ships also with the latest version of  EDIUS – version 6.0 – for seamless, real-time, multi-format editing in SD or HD.

STORM 3G Elite provides the most comprehensive array of I/O available. Video  interfaces include dual 3G SDI, which can be used as either one 3G SDI signal or paired for stereo 3D, 1080p-capable HDMI I/O, and conventional analog video I/O. For audio, STORM 3G Elite has four pairs of AES/EBU interfaces (up to 8 channel I/O, 48 kHz, 24-bit).

STORM 3G and STORM 3G Elite will begin shipping in November, for US$1,999 (€1,729) and US$5,999 (€4,799) respectively, excluding taxes.
