'Titanic' and 'Star Wars' to be released in 3D

Star WarsThe Hollywood Reporter tells us that James Cameron's Titanic and George Lucas' Star Wars - the Phantom Menace are being remade in 3D for relase in 2012. Estimated cost per film is between USD$10 and $12 million. 2012 is significant as it is the 100th year anniversary if the sinking of the monster ship.

The company in charge of converting Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet's tragic love story into 3D has not yet been chosen, but the cost is estimated at $10 to 15 million US dollars, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Following the lack of success of Clash of the Titans in 3D, and lukewarm response to others that have been remade as against shot in 3D, this will be an interesting exercise. I just hope they do "2001: A Space Odyssey" - a film screaming for 3D if ever there was one!
